My Book

Are there any Little Women fans out there? In 1994, when I was 9 years old, I was in the middle of reading the novel when the movie came out in theaters. My parents took us to see it one cold, snowy night and I was immediately enthralled with Winona Ryder as the independent, spunky Jo March. We didn't own many movies on VHS growing up, but I'm fairly certain that my parents bought me a copy of Little Women not long after it came out. My friends and I giggled at the kissing scene between lovestruck Laurie and Jo, and cried when Beth died, but one of my favorite scenes was when Jo stayed up all night to write the book that would become Little Women.

As an avid reader and writer, this was my dream--to pour all of my thoughts and emotions into a piece of writing that other people would love. I could see myself doing it all in one emotionally charged night, just like Jo March.

I became an English teacher at 21, but I didn't take much time to write for fun. After 3.5 years of writing papers in college, maybe I was burnt out. I don't know. When I was 24, Kade was born. The moment I saw him, God changed my heart. He softened it, He changed my wants, desires, plans, dreams--everything. God used a baby to wreck my heart. It changed the whole course of my life.

Anyway, several months after that, I started blogging. Sometimes, I typed with one hand while nursing a baby. I was in the Word all the time and God was consistently putting things on my heart that I would post on my blog. Over the course of several months, I wrote more posts, but didn't share many of them on my blog. I ended up sending them to a publisher, but it didn't work out at the time. However, several years and 2 more children later, I had the opportunity to publish my book. It's a 31 day devotional filled with scripture and hopefully, encouragement.

The book is called Confessions of a Control Freak because I have trouble (yes, I still do) letting God have control over everything in my life--and I put it all out there! I think almost everyone could relate to something that I've gone through, but if not, you can at least laugh with me. I pray that it touches at least one person, though. It's all for God's glory anyway!
